The Horse & The Self

Horses and people have shared an evolution that has carried both conquest and connection across cultures. The intuitive nature of these animals has been spoken about throughout history, at least as far back as the ancient teachings of Socrates, and his student Xenophon... who was likely one of the first to write so thoughtfully on the presence of a horse.

 My aim is to represent our connection. These paintings explore the horse as a mirror. Having worked with horses, I have always felt a connection between the emotional self (me) and the outward behavior of the horse. There is a sense of energy directed into action, kindled to life through an emotional meter. In its greater meaning, this series is not only about our relationship with this animal, but also the measurement of energy exchange between us. 

 Horses have followed us, moved beside us through every turning point in our history. My Intention in this series is to honor the wisdom of that bond.
