The Horse & The Self

 The Horse and the Self explores the soul in relationship. The way our inner world is revealed, challenged, and expanded by and through relationships. Where Thresholds maps the soul’s movement through time and its dimensions as a time traveling entity, this series brings that transit into the embodied present, grounding the cosmic in the living, breathing intelligence of another being. In this body of work, that other being is not another person... but a horse. 

Across cultures and mythologies, horses are regarded as psychopomps— spirit guides who move freely between realms, carrying shamans, gods, heroes, and souls across thresholds of life and death, dream and waking, seen and unseen. In this lineage, the horse is a being who perceives beyond language, who meets us in states of truth, and who reveals the emotional and spiritual frequencies we often hide from ourselves. These are some of the lessons we all seek to learn through relationships.

In this series, the horse becomes a mirror for soul in its human incarnation. On a personal level, my experiences with these beings draws forward what is otherwise guarded or ignored — vulnerability, grief, tenderness, resistance, and coherence. The horse reflects back the parts of myself that long to be seen, integrated, and released... which is how relationships help us evolve and understand ourselves. 

Painting the horse is, for me, a meeting between two consciousnesses: one shaped by the transition of immortal moments; the other anchored in the present moment while being connected to something ancient and unbound. In these works, the horse becomes the embodied horizontal counterpart to the luminous vertical movements explored in Thresholds.

The Horse and the Self reveals that evolution does not only occur across lifetimes, timelines, or dimensions — it also happens here, in the exchange between beings. The eternal self meets the embodied self, and something in both is transformed.
