The Artist

Discover the inspiration and story behind the art of Jenny Blomquist. Jenny's journey explores the captivating intersection of physical realities and the unseen realms that subliminally follow those realities. The 'Thresholds' collection and the 'The Horse & The Self' series each present a unique perspective on existence.

The Story Behind The Art

I paint as an exploration between worlds of physical realities, and what is underneath those realities. In many regards, the realm of the spiritual is my main point of interest, as the changes that come about in response to a shift in spiritual understandings are the most significant. My paintings are an attempt to understand those subliminal moments, when something is both here and at the same time, becoming something else. The Horse and the Self series carries embodiment as physical form (the horse), while the Thresholds Collection loses the physical form and becomes a subconscious event of a soul's transition through time.

What Makes These Paintings Special?

I don't know that some art is more special than other art, so all I can say is that what I offer is an experience—a way for viewers to see and feel both the reality that all of us are time traveling souls,  and also the invisible beauty that exists subconsciously within that knowledge. These two components not only create the self and "the other", but almost by exclusion they also give birth to the moment and the threshold where they cross from one reality to the other. My work engages both the eye and the mind in a way that’s rare, intentional, and personal to every one of us.

Do you enjoy the beauty of realistic/figurative elements, but also values abstraction, liminality, and conceptual, spiritual depth?

Are you comfortable holding multiple interpretations at once? Perhaps you are intrigued by the space between what is seen and what is felt...?

If any of that rang some bells for you, I encourage you to explore more of my work, or reach out to discuss your own customized piece of Fine Art.
